Yesterday the House of Lords passed a bill about Brexit at January 31, 2020. EU immigrants will get a limited right of residence until end of 2020. They may apply for permanent residence during this time. Probably only part of these applications will be successful.
House of Lords primarily wanted automatic right of permanent residence for EU immigrants who already live in GB. But government (with majority in House of Commons) refused, and the Lords deleted this point.
Until end of 2020, GB remains in a transition state, and new hearings between GB und EU will take place. These hearings may address the situation of EU immigrants, among many other things. But outcome is uncertain, and there is lack of time.
